Welcome to VPMesh.org

Virginia Peninsula Mesh is a community group working to build a mesh network of battery / solar-powered Meshtastic® radios in the Hampton Roads area. This network acts like a city-wide text messaging system, allowing people to communicate publicly or privately with anyone on the network. All of this happens without any external infrastructure – no power, no cell phone towers, no internet.

What is Meshtastic®?

Meshtastic® is a project that enables you to use inexpensive LoRa radios as a long range off-grid communication platform in areas without existing or reliable communications infrastructure. This project is 100% community driven and open source! Learn More?

Long range encrypted communications

Meshtastic® allows you to send encrypted chats over long distances using no cell service or internet connections.

Inexpensive DIY friendly radios

Meshtastic® runs on low power LoRa radios commonly used in IOT applications. These radios are inexpensive and easy to use.

Decentralized communication

Meshtastic® is decentralized and requires no router or internet connection. All you need to get a mesh started is two radios you can expand as needed.
